WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE SICK
This Tuesday, 11th February is World Day of Prayer for the sick, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The theme for this year comes to us from St. Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus’ words “Come to me, all who labour and are burdened and I will give you rest” (Mt. 11-28). This too is very close to the mind of Pope Francis who is always very aware of the needs of people & in this instance of the sick & of those who are unwell in any way & those who care for them. Because, as we know, illness has many different forms. Sometimes it is very obvious, perhaps more times it is less obvious & maybe only known to the person themselves.
Pope Francis also asks us to be mindful of the human warmth of Jesus & to come to know Him in a personal way, for example the Jesus of “The Good Samaritan”. In his care for us Jesus gave us, as one of His Seven Sacraments, the Sacrament of The Sick, and this is especially associated with Lourdes & World Day of the Sick, 11th February.
On this Tuesday the Sacrament of the Sick will be available and celebrated within Mass at 11am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Farran. (Please note time, there will be no 9.30am Mass).
All are, of course, welcome to this Mass to pray together on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and to receive the Sacrament of the sick, if they so wish.
PRAYER ON THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES
On the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes we pray for all who are unwell in body or in mind.
Lord, bless those who are ill. Give them your healing and care. Be especially near to those who may never be well again.
Bless those who are sad and
Comfort those whom no one else can comfort.
Lord, bless those who are worried about their own health or that of someone close to them, and those who suffer from depression.
Lord, help us to remember that with your help and the support of one another, there is much we can overcome together.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
