THE LORD’S PRAYER
The Lord’s Prayer is indeed a summary of the entire Gospel. It is called “The Lord’s Prayer” in that Jesus Himself gave it to us as a way of teaching us to pray. Everything we need to know about life & prayer is contained in this wonderful prayer.
Jesus Himself gave us this prayer as the model of all prayer. It is good that we repeat the words of the Lord’s Prayer regularly in prayer. However, saying this prayer is not enough. The goal is to internalise each and every aspect of this prayer so that it becomes a way for us to live our lives and a reminder of our trust in God and of His love for us.

FIRST CONFESSION 2020
The First Holy Communion children of Scoil na nUamhanna, Ovens will receive the Sacrament of First Confession on Thursday, 5th March at the Church of St. John the Baptist.
There will be a short preparation meeting for parents on this Thursday, 27th February at 7.30pm with our Parish Catechists in the Parish Centre.
It will be for just one hour.

ASH WEDNESDAY 2020
This Wednesday, 26th February is Ash Wednesday. It is a special time of Prayer and Reflection for us and corresponds to Jesus’ 40 days of prayer & fasting in the desert before He began His Ministry.
Lent challenges us to lead better lives. The blessed ashes we receive on our foreheads on that day is also, of course, a good visual aid for us. It comes from the palm of last year’s Palm Sunday. Fresh and green then, yet a year later is is ashes. Lent reminds us that while life is to be lived to the full, it is also very fragile and uncertain.
The challenge for us during Lent is to take up something, to give up something that will make us better people. In that way it will also prepare us to celebrate the Life, Death & Resurrection of Jesus in Holy Week. But prayer and reflection are the central elements in this preparation, the central elements of Lent.
Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast & Abstinence.
