LAETARE SUNDAY
This is the Fourth Sunday of Lent, also called Laetare Sunday.
Traditionally, this Sunday has been a day of celebration within the austere period of Lent. This Sunday gets it’s name from the first few words of the traditional Latin entrance verse for the Mass of the day ”Laetare Jerusalem” (“Rejoice, O Jerusalem”).
The Priest may wear Rose coloured vestments at Mass on this Sunday.
MOTHER’S DAY
This Sunday, 10th March is also Mother’s Day.
We wish all Mothers and Grandmothers a very happy day.
We also remember and pray for all Mothers who have gone to their eternal reward.
PARISH ASSEMBLY MEETING
The March meeting of the Ovens/Farran Parish Assembly on this Monday, 11th March at 8.15pm in the Parish Centre.
LÁ LE PÁDRAIG
Sunday next, 17th March is the Feast Day of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland.
There will be a short procession before the Masses in both Churches & a picture of St. Patrick & some bowls of shamrock will be carried to the altar.
The 9.30am Mass in Farran & the 11.30am Mass in Ovens will be As Gaeilge.
CROSS OF HOPE FOR LENT & THE GARMENT OF SUFFERING, HOPE & THANKSGIVING
The wooden cross is now in place in the sanctuary of our Churches.
During the Season of Lent Parishioners are invited to come quietly & in their own time to place their message of hope for Lent in the box, which is placed near the cross. There is also a basket with spare paper and pens on which you may write your message.
Your hope for this Lent may be for yourself, a family member, a friend or neighbour, the Church or the world.
During Lent all the messages of hope will be prayed for in the Prayers of the Faithful.
As in previous years, everyone is also welcome to be part of the Garment of Suffering, Hope & Thanksgiving.
There are baskets in the porches of both Churches with pieces of cloth, or you may bring your own piece.
Take a moment to hold your cloth & name & identify your own pain or suffering or that of someone close to you.
The prayer, of course, may also be one of Hope or one of thanksgiving for favours received.
Place your piece of cloth in the basket in front of the altar.
All these pieces will be sewn together during Holy Week and placed on the cross on Good Friday.
