A LENTEN PRAYER
Today Lord, I choose life,
I choose your love and the challenge to live it and share it.
I choose hope, even in moments of darkness,
I choose faith, accepting you as Lord and God.
I choose to let go of some part of my burdens, day by day handing them over to you.
I choose to take hold of your strength and power ever more deeply in my life.
May this truly be for me a time of new life, of change, challenge and growth.
May I come to Easter with a heart open to dying with you and rising to your new life, day by day.
Amen.
LÁ FHÉILE NAOMH PÁDRAIG
We are inclined to think that Naomh Pádraig’s Mission was mostly plain sailing, but he had his troubles too. He tells us in his “Confessions” that when he was minding sheep on the mountain he often felt sad and depressed, like a stone stuck in the mud. But the Holy Spirit saved him.
When he came back to Ireland he had the same troubles as any missionary anywhere. Naomh Pádraig concludes his “Confessions” by writing that his “only prayer to God is that it may never happen that I should lose his people which he has won for himself at the end of the earth”.
As we remember Irish people all over the world today and, of course in our own country, may that prayer be heard.
DÓCHAS LINN NAOMH PÁDRAIG
Dóchas linn Naomh Pádraig, aspal mór na hÉireann, ainm oirirc gléigeal, solas mór an tsaoil é.
‘S é to chloigh na draoithe, croíthe dúra gan aon mhaith, d’ísligh dream an díomas trí neart Dé ár dréanfhlaith.
Sléibhte, gleannta, máighe ‘s bailte mór na hÉireann, ghlan sé iad go deo dhúinn, míle glóir dár Naomh dhil.
Iarraimid ort, a Phádraig, guí orainne Gaela.
Dia linn lá ‘gus oíche ‘s Pádraigh Aspal Éireann.
ÁR DTEANGA FHÉIN
An Té a Chuireann san Earrach, Bainfidh Sé san Fhómhar
He who sows in Spring will reap in the Autumn. Obvious practical advice for the farmer or gardener, but the thinking applies to us all.
