MORNING PRAYER
Lord, help me to live this day, quietly, easily.

trustfully, restfully.

To meet others, peacefully, joyously.
To face tomorrow, confidently, courageously.

Mission Sunday 2023
This Sunday we remember Missionaries around the world, especially where Irish Missionaries have worked, but have now handed over to the Local Church membership.
This is the true sign of Missionary success, to set up and then to be able to hand over successfully to the well formed local people, the Cork & Ross Mission to Peru & Ecuador is a good example of that.

We need to be very much Missionary today too. It is interesting to know that the Patroness of the Missions, St. Therese of Lisieux never went on Mission but prayed for them. We need to do that now also and to be very aware that we are missionary at home too, in our own place and in our own homes and families.
We can support Missions and Missionaries also by our financial support.
The following gives an idea:
The World Mission Sunday collection which takes place this weekend, the 2nd last Sunday in October, makes it possible for Pope Francis to aid projects in some of the poorest countries of our world. Funding received in Ireland is used for a range of different child related projects. This includes purchasing chairs and tables for children. In many areas, the only place children can sit is directly on the ground. Other items that are purchased for children include educational material, uniforms, food and games.

Where donations were sent in 2023:
Young people shared hope and solidarity with the world’s poorest children. €82,448 was distributed to child related projects abroad, in Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, Mali and Niger.
€1,408,232 was distributed to support Missionaries and fund church projects in Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea.
Through your generosity, the next generation of Priests, Sisters, Brothers & Catechists are supported financially. €147,127.34 was sent to Seminaries in Cameroon, Senegal, Togo, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau.

SAFEGUARDING
The Diocese Safeguarding Committee welcomed the introduction of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 which came into effect on 26th April 2023. This law that establishes a new legal framework for supported decision-making in Ireland. It allows people to make legal agreements on how they can be supported to make decisions about their personal welfare, property and affairs.

These new regulations are for people who don’t have the capacity to make decisions, now or in the future without help.
The Act also allows us to plan for a time when we might lose our capacity in 2 types of future planning arrangements, known as Advance healthcare directives and Enduring power of attorney.
