LÁ FHÉILE NAOMH BRÍD
This Wednesday, 1st February we celebrate the Feast of St. Brigid, Naomh Bríd, Muire na nGael.
St. Brigid was born in 454. She became a nun and founded a Monastery in Kildare with the assistance of Bishop Conleth. St. Brigid is renowned for her hospitality, almsgiving and care of the sick. The St. Brigid’s Cross, in legend used by Brigid to explain the Christian faith, remains a popular sign of God’s protection. Brigid died in 524.
The fourth class pupils of Scoil na nUamhanna will have their display of St. Brigid Crosses in Ovens Church & the pupils of Scoil Muire Farran will also have their crosses in Farran Church.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD
On Thursday next, 2nd February we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple in Jerusalem, where he was met by Anna & Simeon.
This feast is also called Candlemas Day and marks the return of light, a symbol of protection and prosperity. Candles are blessed at Masses and used in Churches and homes for the rest of the year.

Candles will be blessed in Farran Church on Thursday next, 2nd February during the 9.30am Mass. The school children from Scoil Muire Farran will attend Mass and there will be the blessing of throats for the Feast of St. Blaise for the school children and anyone else who may wish to receive the blessing on that morning.
Candles may be handed in to either Ovens or Farran Church before Thursday. Any candles handed in to Ovens Church will be brought to Farran to be blessed and may be collected from Ovens Church later in the day.

Feast of St. Blaise
On Friday next, 3rd February we celebrate the Feast of St. Blaise, patron Saint of illnesses of the throat.

Throats will be blessed after the 9.30am Ovens Mass that morning.
There will also be blessing of throats on Friday evening at 7pm in Ovens Church.

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES
To celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes the Family of Parishes of Ballincollig, Ovens, Ballinora & Farran invite you to participate in the Sacrament of the Sick on Friday 10th February, 7pm to 7.45pm, in the Church of St. John the Baptist, Ovens.
This Sacrament is available to all who are suffering both physically, mentally or spiritually.

In addition to participation in the Sacrament there will be a time of Prayer and Benediction. We invite you to come and celebrate with us.
Come to this opportunity to share our needs with the Lord and to have Our Mother present us to Him in Trust.
“Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief.

DAY FOR CONSECRATED LIFE
To mark the Day for Consecrated Life, Bishop Fintan is inviting members of Religious Communities throughout the Diocese of Cork and Ross to join him in praying Evening Prayer on Thursday next, 2nd February at 5pm in the Cathedral of St. Mary & St. Anne. Livestream: www.corkcathedral.ie/live-stream
