HOLY WEEK 2023
This Sunday, Palm/Passion Sunday is the First Day of Holy Week & the Sunday before Easter. On Palm Sunday we commemorate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem riding on a donkey.
Palm will be blessed at the beginning of Mass in both our Churches. The palms may then be taken home. Some of the palms are burned the following year to serve as the ashes for Ash Wednesday.
This week, Holy Week, we remember & commemorate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. This, of course, includes within it The Mass of the Last Supper when we remember, on Holy Thursday the First Mass Jesus offered and through which He is with us to this day in the Eucharist.
The Irish Language refers to the coming week as “An tSeachtain Mór”, the Great Week, and this is most appropriate. Because it truly is the Great Week and what greater than the above could we ever dare to commemorate. Through the various ceremonies of Holy Week, please God we will make it truly the Great Week, An tSeachtain Mór.

REFLECTION FOR HOLY WEEK: FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness is the greatest gift that we can receive. The whole reason why Jesus came among us as a man & suffered & died for us on the cross was to give us the gift of reconciliation with His Father & with our brothers & sisters. He wants us all to have that amazing experience of being forgiven, not just for a moment but for all eternity.
This Holy Week let us remember the power of forgiveness as we forgive & are forgiven & every day, we can celebrate Jesus: the salvation He won for us by dying & rising from the dead, His precious gift of a new life in Him, and the way he pours out His mercy upon us when we repent.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION FOR HOLY WEEK, AN TSEACHTAIN MÓR
Seek Reconciliation
When you are at peace with others, you will ultimately be at peace with yourself.
For Further Reflection:
Hebrews 12:14
Matthew 5:23-24.

ÁR DTEANGA FÉIN
An Té a Bhíonn Fial, Roinneann Dia Leis
God rewards the generous person. Literally, God shares (roinneann) with the generous (fial) one.
Be kind to others & God will be kind to you.
God shares so much with us in Holy Week, An tSeachtain Mór.

ALL IN THE APRIL EVENING
All in the April Evening April airs are abroad.
The sheep with their little lambs passed me by on the road.
All in the April evening I thought on the Lamb of God.

The lambs were weary and crying with a weak human cry.
I thought on the lamb of God going meekly to die.
Up in the blue, blue mountain dewy pastures are sweet, rest for the little bodies rest for the little feet.

But for the lamb, the Lamb of God up on the hilltop green only a cross, a cross of shame, two stark crosses between.

All in the April evening April airs were abroad, I saw the sheep with their lambs & thought on the Lamb of God.
