SCRIPTURE REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK
Look Up
It’s only when we walk with our head down that we bump into lamp posts, with our chin up and head straight, in the dark the same lamp post becomes our light and guide.
For Further Reflection
Micah 7:7

A NEW YEAR PRAYER
Let there be love and understanding among us. Let peace & friendship be our shelter from life’s storms.
Eternal God, help us to walk with good companions, to live with hope in our hearts and eternity in our thoughts.
That we may lie down in peace each night & rise up each morning to find our hearts waiting to do your will.

This Sunday, 7th January we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. It is a major event in the life of Jesus and is described in the three Gospels of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark & Luke). It is considered to have taken place in Bethany, on the eastern bank of the River Jordan.
This Feast Day is also, of course, the Feast Day of the Baptism of each of us, when we remember our own Baptism and those who were present on the day, parents, sponsors, family, grandparents, where we were baptised and the Priest who performed the ceremony.
A Baptism is always a very special occasion for the family. It is important that families are well prepared beforehand. Baptism Preparation Meetings are held monthly in the Parish Centre at 11am. There are two Baptism Preparation Teams: Dan Healy and Mary O’Callaghan & Margo Murphy, Cáit & Geraldine McCarthy.
This Sunday, we have our Annual Service of Prayer & Thanksgiving for the 63 children Baptised in our parish last year. It takes place in St. John the Baptist Church, Ovens at 3pm. We hope to see as many families as possible present for this happy occasion. After the ceremony light refreshments will be served in the parish centre.

RECENT BAPTISMS

SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD
In September 2019 Pope Francis announced that he was setting aside the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time every year as the “Sunday of the Word of God”.
To mark the Sunday of the Word of God, which this year is 21st January, Pope Francis invites us to enthrone the Word of God in our Churches.
Farran: 9.30am & Ovens: 11.30am.
All Ministers of the Word are invited to be present and there will also be the Recommissioning of the Ministers of the Word at the Mass.
More details of this special Sunday will be given in next week’s newsletter.

An Té a Bhíonn Fial, Roinneann Dia Leis
God rewards the generous person. Literally, God shares (roinneann) with the generous (fial) one. Be kind to others and God will be kind to you.
