FEAST OF THE ASCENSION
This Sunday is Ascension Sunday, the day on which the Risen Jesus Ascended into Heaven, forty days after the Resurrection.
Up to 1992 this Feast was celebrated on a Thursday and it was a Church Holiday.
In this weekend’s Gospel Luke 24:44-53 we read the account of the Ascension of Jesus.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK
Be Satisfied

Be careful for the love of “more”.
You risk losing appreciation of your God-given blessings.
For Further Reflection:
Hebrews 13:5

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2024
The First Holy Communion children of Scoil na hUamhanna, Ovens will receive the Eucharist for the first time on Saturday next, 18th May at the Church of St. John the Baptist, Ovens at 10am & 12noon.

SECOND COLLECTION
The Annual Collection for Mission and Ministry will be taken up at all Masses this Weekend, 11th/12th May.

The Office of Mission & Ministry is a crucial element in how we serve Priests & People in Parishes & Family of Parishes, as together we enable faith communities to encounter Christ & build His Kingdom. The Office provides formation programmes for ministries such as Parish Assemblies/Councils, Baptism, Funeral Ministry, Eucharistic Ministers & Ministers of the Word, as well as continuing to meet with Priests & teams of Priests from the Families of Parishes to provide support to their ministry in Parish.
Your support for this collection would be greatly appreciated this weekend.

OUR LADY IN JESUS’ LIFE & IN OURS
The Angel Gabriel said to you. ‘You will be mother of Jesus’.
With Elizabeth you rejoiced, ‘I will be mother of Jesus’.
In a manger in Bethlehem, you became mother of Jesus.
In the temple your baby was blessed, glad to be mother of Jesus.
In the temple you found your son, proud to be mother of Jesus.
In Cana you asked & watched as your son began His father’s work, fortunate to be the mother of Jesus.
On Calvary your heart was pierced as you followed your son till the end, heartbroken as the mother of Jesus.
On Easter Sunday you rejoiced in the Resurrection, joyful to be the mother of Jesus.
On Ascension Thursday, you rejoiced in the Ascension.
On Pentecost Sunday, you welcomed the Holy Spirit.
Mary, our mother, the Lord is with you.
Guide us, protect us in all that we do.

98TH CORK EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION
The 98th Cork Eucharistic Procession to mark the Feast of Corpus Christi will take place on Sunday, May 26th.

The Procession will leave the North Cathedral at 3pm and make its way through the city to Saints Peter & Paul’s Church, where there will be a short liturgy and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Parish groups are encouraged to gather at the Cathedral & to process together under their parish banner.
The media reported that over 4000 people processed in 2023 & it is wonderful to see that the Eucharistic Procession continues to unite people of faith across Cork from many different communities & backgrounds.
The Procession will celebrate 100 years in 2026.
People from Parishes throughout the Diocese are strongly encouraged to join us for this important event for our city and our people of faith united around the Eucharist.
