THE NATIVITY OF OUR BLESSED LADY
This Sunday, 8th September is the Birthday of Our Lady.
The Feast is celebrated 9 months after the Feast of The Immaculate Conception on the 8th December.
The earliest known account of the birth of Mary, Mother of Jesus, is in the Gospel of St. James (5:2). Her parents were St. Joachim & St. Anne.
Prayer for the Nativity of Our Lady
Almighty & Merciful God, who through the co-operation of the Holy Spirit, did prepare the body and soul of the Immaculate Virgin Mary that she might be the worthy Mother of Thy Son, and preserved her from all stain. Grant that we who venerate her most holy childhood, may be freed, through her intercession, from all uncleanness of mind & body & be able to imitate her humility, obedience & charity, through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

A WATERED GARDEN
In a garden, however small, we can experience peace & rest. In the silent presence of growth and beauty, we admire the harmony of colour, enjoy the fragrance and we see the perfection of the divine workmanship, even in the tiny primrose. We become conscious of how flowers respond to watering & to the sunlight.
St. John of the Cross liked to picture the soul as like a garden, where the heavenly Father, like a gardener, takes delight in admiring the flowers, touching them here and there as he walks through the garden.
They are the virtues he finds in the soul, some in bloom, some fragile, some needing attention to survive. His words describe the reality. What virtues are in the soul were planted by the divine gardener & only survive and grow by his daily care.
“My beloved had a vineyard & planted it with choice vines” (Is 5:2,2).
Lord, I thank you for your daily care of me.
