NOVEMBER – MONTH OF OUR DEAD
November is a special month in which we remember our dead. But, unfortunately, it will be somewhat different this year due to the Coronavirus restrictions.
Bishop Fintan has requested that there will be no Cemetery Prayers this year and also that the Annual Mass for those who died during year should not take place. However, we will, le cunamh Dé, be able to have our Annual Novena of Masses on Webcam, Live Streamed. We may also be able to remember in a special way those who died during the year.
People will, of course, be able to make their own personal visits to cemeteries, which in any case is so much part of November. It also gives the opportunity to attend to family graves.

Sincere thanks to all who look after our cemeteries and graves so well in Kilcrea, Ovens, Aglish and Athnowen.
I measc na Naoimh go raibh ár marbh uile.

NOVENA FOR THE DEAD
The Novena begins on All Souls Day, 2nd November and continues until 10th Nov, both days inclusive.
Novena for the Dead envelopes, now available in the Church porches.

MISSION SUNDAY, 18TH OCTOBER
World Mission Sunday is a day set aside for the Catholic Church throughout the world to publicly renew its commitment to the Missionary movement. It is celebrated on the second last Sunday of October every year. It was created by Pope Pius X1 in 1926 as the day of prayer for missions. It is closely related to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith which was founded by a laywoman, Pauline Jaricot in 1818. Its purpose was to maintain the spirit of Pentecost that sent the apostles to the far ends of the earth. This missionary spirit belongs to the very nature of the Church.
In St. Matthew’s Gospel we read that Jesus gave the charge to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you”. Missionaries carry out this call daily, often risking their own safety and lives to do so.
This Sunday we remember all Missionaries, especially all the Priests, Nuns, Brothers and Lay People from our own country who worked in countries like Africa, South America, India and elsewhere.
Missionaries need our prayers for the great and sacrificial work they are doing through the Holy Spirit.

A SHORT PRAYER FOR MISSIONARIES
God of Loving Devotion, we pray for Missionaries all over the world. We ask that You help them to remain faithful to the call that You have given them. We pray that when they feel like giving up, that You will grant them Your strength and a desire to carry on.
Amen.

LEARNING ABOUT THE MASS WITH KATH & QUMEN
WHAT DO WE DO AT MASS?

1 Join in the Prayers.
2.Stand, kneel and sit at the right times.

  1. Listen carefully.
  2. Offer our gifts to be shared.
  3. Go to the altar to receive Holy Communion or a blessing.
  4. Sing at times.
  5. The Holy Mass begins with the gathering of the people and the entrance of the Priest. The opening parts of the Mass are called the Introductory Rites. When the Priest arrives at the Altar he kisses it. We all make the Sign of the Cross together, this is the way we begin all our prayers. The Priest then says “The Lord be with you” and we all answer “And with your spirit”. This is a special way of greeting us and reminds us that God is always with us. The Priest then introduces the Penitential Act. At this part of the Mass we get an opportunity to reflect on the things we might have done during the past week for which we need forgiveness So we recite the Confiteor together. Then comes the Kyrie. The priest says “Lord, have mercy” and all answer “Lord, have mercy”, Priest: “Christ, Have mercy”, All: Christ, have mercy”, Priest: “Lord, have mercy”, All: “Lord, have mercy”.

The Gloria
On Sundays and special Feast Days the Gloria is recited. The Gloria is a very old prayer of praise and thanksgiving. The first few lines will sound familiar, because it was the song sung by the Angels when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of Good Will”.
