A Prayer (On entering Level 5)
This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall,
until the bitter weather passes.
Try as best you can, not to let the wire brush of doubt scrape into your heart all sense of yourself and your hesitant light.
If you remain generous,
Time will come good.
And you will find your feet again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.

NOVEMBER – MONTH OF OUR DEAD
November is a special month in which we remember our dead. But, unfortunately, it will be somewhat different this year due to the Coronavirus restrictions.
As you may know, Bishop Fintan has requested that there will be no Cemetery Prayers this year or the Annual Mass for those who died during year, as we have known it. However, we will be able to have our Annual Novena of Masses on Webcam, Live Streamed. During the Novena we will remember each night in a special way 5 of our people who died in the past year, commencing with those who died in November, 2019. A votive light will be lit for each person and their name will be put on the Tree of Remembrance. As in previous years the lights will be placed on the cross near the altar and if a family member wishes to take the light home they may do so, names will be on each light. It would be nice to leave the names on the tree for the month of November and collect them after that.
Families are invited to join from home and light their own candle as they do so.
People will, of course, be able to make their own personal visits to cemeteries, which in any case is so much part of November. There are copies of a lovely Prayer Service in the porches of our Churches, which you may use on your visit to the cemeteries. In this week’s newsletter there is a summary of the Prayer Service. Holy water is also available in Ovens Church.

LEARNING ABOUT THE MASS WITH KATH & QUMEN
This week we learn about the Liturgy of the Word. The word of God is so important for us that there is a special place in the Church from which it is read. We call this the Ambo. The only time the Ambo is used is for the Readings, the Gospel, the Homily and the Prayers of the Faithful. The person who reads at Mass is called the Minister of the Word.
When we listen to the Word of God we are listening to the story of God’s love for us as it is written in the Bible. We sit down to listen just as we would when we listen to any story. During the first part of the Liturgy of the Word we usually listen to three readings from the Bible.
The first reading is from the Old Testament.
The Psalm is from the book of Psalms.
The second reading is from the New Testament.
