LIVE A LIFE THAT MATTERS
Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.
There will be no more summers, no minutes, hours or days.
All the things your collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations an jealousies will finally disappear.
So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and no to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won’t matter where you came from.
It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender and skin colour will be irrelevant.
So what will matter?
What will matter is not what you bought, but hat you built.

Not what you got, but what you gave.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence, but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.
What will matter is not your memories but the memories that live on in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens by choice.

Sponsors for Baptism
Whenever a person is Baptised, as an infant, as a child or as an adult, there should be at least one person present who will act as sponsor for the one being Baptised. The sponsor, commonly referred to as one’s godmother or godfather, accepts the responsibility of helping the person grow in the Catholic Faith. One who acts as a sponsor for an infant or a child agrees to help the parents teach their child about the faith and how to live as a practising Catholic. One who acts as sponsor for an adult agrees to encourage and support the person, pray with and for the person and offer whatever help, information or support is needed while the person is preparing to enter the Church and then is living out the rest of his or her life as a practising Catholic.

For a person to act as a sponsor for Baptism, he or she must be at least 16 years old, must have already received all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist) and must be living in a way that demonstrates that one’s faith is strong enough to be able to fulfil the responsibilities involved with being a sponsor.

THANK YOU FOR PARISH CONTRIBUTIONS
Sincere thanks to the Ovens and Farran parishioners for the support they have given for the upkeep of the parish services during a most difficult time.
Thanks to all who dropped in envelopes, even though no Masses with congregations were taking place. Also, for the contributions received using the on-line and direct debit system. To enable the parish to meet unavoidable expenses we are also grateful for contributions from the shrines, crib and, of course, the tax-back system.
The Tax-Back System is still open to new members for 2020 and 2021, who are tax payers, and have contributed an average of at least €5 per week (€250 for a year).
Contact; Fr. Liam for details.
Again, thanks to all who have helped in any way and who contribute in whatever way you do.

LÁ FHÉILE NAOMH BRÍD, 1ST FEBRUARY
On Monday, 1st February we celebrate the Feast of St. Brigid, Muire na nGael.
St. Brigid Crosses were usually made by the children of Scoil na nUamhanna and Scoil Mhuire Farran and displayed in both Ovens and Farran churches. The Crosses were then blessed at the morning Mass.
Unfortunately this year, due to the Coronavirus the schools are closed but perhaps it would be nice if children, and adults also, could make a cross at home.
How to Make your own Cross in good time with rushes or reeds

  1. Loop a horizontal reed around the vertical reed. 2. Loop the next vertical reed around the horizontal reed. 3. Now loop the next horizontal reed around both vertical reeds. 4. Then loop a vertical reed around both horizontal reeds. 5. Finally, loop a horizontal reed around both vertical reeds going down. You can repeat these steps about 4 times. Tie the ends with elastic bands or cord.
