THE LORD’S PRAYER/ÁR NATHAIR
The Lord’s Prayer/Ár nAthair is the most complete Prayer. This is not surprising in that it is the prayer that Jesus taught us in response to the Disciples request “Lord, teach us to Pray” (Luke 11: 1-3 or Matthew 6: 9-13). It is a prayer we use frequently and is the prayer of all Christians.
The Our Father is itself, of course, a Scriptural text, but perhaps we have become too familiar with it to appreciate its depth and all its resonances. The pure light, so to speak, is refracted into many colours as the different themes underlying the prayer emerge: Their inter-weaving produces the beautiful tapestry which is our faith. For indeed, a great part of Christian doctrine is implied in the Lord’s Prayer, as well as direction for Christian living and a piercing examination of conscience.

AN PHAIDIR
Ár nAthair atá ar neamh, go naofar d’ainm,
Go dtaga do ríocht, go ndéantar do thoil ar an talamh mar a dhéantar ar neamh.
Ár n-arán laethúil tabhair dúinn inniu,
agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha, mar a mhaithimidne ár bhféichiúna féin,
agus ná lig sinn I gcathú, ach saor sinn ó olc. Amen.

LÁ FHÉILE NAOMH PÁDRAIG 2021
This Wednesday, 17th March we celebrate Lá Fhéile Naomh Pádraig/
St. Patrick’s Day.

We believe that Patrick brought God’s Word to Ireland in the 5th century. There are many stories told about Patrick and how he taught the people of Ireland about God & Jesus Christ. One of the stories tells us that he used the shamrock to show how there are three persons in one God and this is why we wear shamrock on his feast day. Patrick came to Ireland as an Immigrant; he chose to make this country his home. On St. Patrick’s Day we remember all those Irish people who have made their home in other countries and we give thanks for the many people who have come here to make their home in Ireland.
It is a special day which resonates with our people at home and all over the world. It will be especially so this year, as so many of our people abroad haven’t been home for over a year or more. The Webcam gives us an opportunity to send greetings/Beannachtaí to them on St. Patrick’s Day.
If you would like to send greetings to family members abroad, please let us know and we will do so at the Lá Fhéile Naomh Pádraig Masses. Names may be handed in by mid-day on Tuesday, 16th March. You may drop the names into the letter boxes at Ovens or Farran Churches, the Parochial House or the Parish Centre. You may also email : ovensparish@gmail.com or phone: 4289768. In the meantime if you are in touch with family members abroad you can let them know.
You will see a World Map before the altar in Ovens Church. That is the map we used for Christmas 2019. The markers on the map show where our people live all over the world. One could say it has been Covid almost since then. We greet them and reach out to them from home to wherever they are.

LÁITHREACHT DÉ– THE PRESENCE OF GOD.
Dia liom ag luí, Dia liom ag éirí,
Dia liom gach aon ré solais,
Dia dhom’ stiúradh,
Dia dhom’ sheoladh.
A Thiarna Dia dhom’ rialú anois agus go síoraí.

Amen

FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH
On Friday next, 19th March we celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph.
St. Joseph was an ordinary manual labourer, although descended from the royal house of David. In the designs of Providence he was destined to become the spouse of the Mother of God. His high privilege is expressed in a single phrase, “Foster Father of Jesus.” About him Sacred Scripture has little more to say than that he was a just man, an expression which indicates how faithfully he fulfilled his high trust of protecting and guarding God’s greatest treasures upon earth, Jesus and Mary.
His status was acknowledged by an angel. “Rise, take the child and his mother”. (Matthew 2:20). His position in the family was recognised by Mary “Your father and I have been looking for you anxiously”. (Luke 2:48).
We can be sure of the power of his intercession, as was St. Teresa of Avila who said: “I do not remember even now that I ever asked anything of him which he has failed to grant”.
And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. (Luke 2:51).
