PALM SUNDAY
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and is an important Christian festival around the world. It falls on the Sunday before Easter Sunday and just like Easter it is a moveable feast (it is a celebration that does not fall on the same date every year).
Palm Sunday is a commemoration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, coming in peace and riding on a donkey Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem coincided with the Jewish festival of Passover. He was met by crowds of followers and supporters who lined the road into the city & waved branches cut from palm trees. They laid palms on the road and even laid down cloaks for Jesus to ride over. This entry into Jerusalem fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies promising that God’s Messiah would enter the Holy City and go to the temple.
On Palm Sunday, the palm will be blessed at each of our online Masses from Ovens Church. It would be very fitting if people joining in the online Masses would have their own piece of palm with them and they will be blessed virtually during Mass.
The palm blessed on Palm Sunday this year is the palm that will be burned and used as ashes on Ash Wednesday the following year.
PALM CROSSES
On this Sunday, Palm Sunday, palm crosses will be available in both Ovens and Farran Churches. They will also be available on Good Friday.
EASTER CARDS
When visiting the Church for private prayer, please take one of the Easter cards, available in the porches of the Churches. They contain information on the Easter Ceremonies in both Ovens and Farran Churches. Via Webcam.
TRÓCAIRE BOXES
You may return your Trócaire boxes at any time to either Ovens or Farran Churches.
Please support the Trócaire Campaign.
ENCOURAGING WORDS FOR HOLY WEEK
Holy Week brings us a precious time for reflecting on the love of Christ. We realise during this time how He gave Himself for us at any cost. He signed on the dotted line. His passion, death and resurrection became the expression of His will to save, His will to love.
Christ-centred love takes us out of ourselves as we dwell on His compassion and His love. It enables us to love with greater freedom of spirit, not seeking our own ways but responding to our neighbour with an open heart.
“and may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep His love really is” (Ephesians 3:18).
HOLY WEEK 2021
Unfortunately, this year once again the Easter Ceremonies cannot be celebrated with a congregation due to continuing Government Covid 19 Restrictions, But we will be able to celebrate the ceremonies on line and Via Webcam It is so important that we would.
