DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
This Sunday, 11th April is Divine Mercy Sunday.
Sr. Faustina was a young Sister in the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Poland in the 1950’s. She came from a very poor family that struggled much during World War 1, indeed like so many families in the time of “The War to end all Wars”. She received extraordinary messages from Jesus. These she compiled into notebooks & they are known today as the “Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska”. The words contained within are Gods loving message of Divine mercy. Sr. Faustina’s Diary sparked a great movement and significant focus on the mercy of Jesus Christ. It is a constant reminder of the message to trust in Jesus’ endless mercy, The Divine Mercy, and to live mercifully towards others.
Sr. Faustina was canonised a Saint by Pope St. John Paul 2nd in the year 2000, making her the first Saint of the new millennium .
The message of The Divine Mercy is very simple. It is that God loves us, all of us. We need to call on that love & let it flow from us to others and between us, all through Jesus. This will help us to grow as genuine followers of Jesus Christ.
CHAPLET OF THE DIVINE MERCY
How to pray the Chaplet:
- Begin with the Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary & the Apostles Creed.
- On the Our Father Beads say the following: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and the sins of the whole world.
- On the 10 Hail Mary Beads say the following: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Repeat step 2 & 3 for all remaining decades).
- Conclude with the following prayer (3 times): Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.
Concluding Prayer: “Eternal God, in whom Mercy is endless and the Treasury of Compassion – inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your Mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your Holy Will, which is Love and mercy itself”.
“The souls that say this Chaplet will be embraced by My Mercy during their lifetime and especially at the hour of their death”.
SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
As we continue to pray the Mass from our homes, due to Churches being closed for Masses with people present, the following is a lovely prayer to recite as we receive Holy Communion Spiritually.
Prayer to Angel Guardian when you cannot receive the Eucharist
Dear guardian Angel, go for me to the Church.
There kneel down at Mass for me.
At the Offertory take me to God and offer Him my service, what I am, what I have, offer as my gift.
At the Consecration with your seraphic friends adore my Saviour truly present.
Pray for those my loved ones, those who have offended me and for those now deceased, that the blood of Jesus may purify them all.
During Holy Communion bring to me the body and blood of Jesus, uniting Him with me in Spirit so that my heart may become His dwelling place.
Plead with Him that through His sacrifice all peoples throughout the world may be saved.
When Mass ends, bring home to me and to every home the Lord’s blessing.
THE MONTH OF APRIL
April is the fourth month of the year, has 30 days and is named after the Greek Goddess Aphrodite. April’s birth flower is the daisy and for those born in April the Birthstone is the Diamond.
April is also the month of the Resurrection of Jesus, but as Easter is a moveable Feast it may also fall towards the end of March.
In April work on the land starts in earnest, whether on farms or in our gardens. The weather in April is changeable, as the saying goes “April showers bring forth May flowers”. Days are getting longer & hopefully warmer, the swallows arrive & trees and flowers are beginning to bloom.
The English poet William Wordsworth was born on April 7th 1770.
WORDS OF POPE FRANCIS
“In these difficult times we take hope from the words of Jesus in St. Matthew’s Gospel, “I am with you always to the end of time” (Mt. 28:20). We are not alone. That is why we need not be afraid to go down into the dark nights of problems and suffering. We know that we don’t have the answers all ready and neatly packaged, yet we trust that the Lord will open for us doors we had no idea were there”.
Pope Francis.

already done so.
PEACE BE WITH YOU-PEACE OF MIND
In this weekend’s Gospel Jesus used the words “Peace be with You”. These are words Jesus uses on a few occasions after the Resurrection.
The peace we are looking for is not the peace that crumbles as soon as there is difficulty or chaos. Whether we are seeking inner peace or global peace or a combination of the two, the way to experience it is to build on the foundation of unconditional openness to all that arises. Peace isn’t an experience free of challenges, free of rough and smooth. It is an experience that is expansive enough to include all that arises without feeling threatened and with the help of God it is Peace of mind.
