PENTECOST SUNDAY
This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. The feast commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and other Disciples. It occurs 50 days after Easter and it marks the beginning of the Christian Church’s Mission in the world.
The Feast of Pentecost or Shavuot has many names in the Bible, such as, the Feast of Weeks & the Feast of Harvest. It is traditionally a joyous time of giving thanks and presenting offerings for the new grain of the summer wheat harvest in Israel.
The Feast of Weeks is a harvest festival celebrated in May or June. The tradition of decorating with greenery at Pentecost represents the harvest and the Torah’s reference as the “tree of life”. Because Pentecost falls around the end of the school year, it is also a favourite time for holding Jewish Confirmation celebrations.
At Pentecost the Holy Spirit came once for all. The wind of Pentecost is ever blowing through the Church, bringing a vivifying energy, a new fire of divine love. The Holy Spirit preserves for the Church the freshness of youth. It is like a garden in flower, in the variety and forms of religious life and in the universal call to holiness.
Pope St. John Paul 11 describes the urgency of that call: “Every lay Christian is an extraordinary work of God’s grace, and is called to the heights of holiness”.
There is always the need to reawaken the memory of Pentecost, to experience again the joy of the Spirit and the optimism of the Cross. The Spirit of the Lord has filled the world. (Wis 1:7)
“Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful”

OUR LADY, IN TIME OF PANDEMIC & ALWAYS
Mary the Mother who cared for Jesus, now cares with maternal affection and pain for this wounded world. Just as her pierced heart mourned the death of Jesus, so now she grieves for the sufferings of the crucified poor and for the creatures of this world laid waste by human power. Completely transfigured, she now lives with Jesus, and all creatures sing of her fairness. She is the Woman, “Clothed in the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars” (Rev 12:1). Carried up into heaven, she is the Mother and Queen of all creation. In her glorified body, together with the Risen Christ, part of creation has reached the fullness of its beauty. She treasures the entire life of Jesus in her heart (cf. Lk 2:19.st). and now understands the meaning of all things. Hence, we can ask her to enable us to look at this world with eyes of wisdom.
Pope Francis. Laudato Si.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA
On May 13th last we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. Between May 1917 and October 1917, Our Lady appeared several times to three Portugese children, Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin, Lucia dos Santos. In her Apparitions, Our Lady asked the children to pray the Rosary for the world.
Let us pray during this Pentecost month that the Holy spirit may fill us with the fruits of God’s love to serve people with the joy of the Gospel.

INVITATION
Let yourselves be loved by Jesus. Look at your best friend stretched out on the cross. His arms inviting you to Him. He awaits you, waiting for you to take a step towards Him. Jesus is ready to welcome and to forgive you, it is up to you, to me, to draw near.
Eucharistic Adoration: Every Friday after the 9.30am Mass in Ovens Church for one hour 10am to 11am. Commencing on Friday, 28th May. All are welcome.
Jesus says ”Come to me all you who labour and are heavily burdened and I will give you rest”.
Holy Hour each Tuesday night in Ovens Church 8pm to 9pm, the Eucharistic Adoration on Friday mornings and the Holy Rosary also on Friday morning at 9.10am before the 9.30am Mass, are all Via the Webcam.

Returning to Mass with a Congregation
We welcome everyone back to Mass when we join in prayer as a Community of Faith on Weekends and weekdays. It has indeed been great to see and to welcome back so many. As everyone knows & understands, there are limited numbers allowed in our Churches due to Covid restrictions. Thanks for this understanding.
Both our churches in Ovens & Farran have outside speakers which are very effective. One may also, of course, join in the Mass through the Webcam: churchservices.tv/ovens & now also from the webcam installed in Farran Church this week: churchservices.tv/farran. This applies to weekend and weekday Masses.
It is very important that when restrictions are fully lifted our Faith Community in Ovens & Farran will come together in person to pray the Mass at weekends & weekdays in our Churches. Those living elsewhere, the sick and housebound can join us on the Webcam. The facility is also very helpful with regard to Weddings or Funerals, if families wish to use it.
As previously, one may make any of the weekday Masses our Saturday evening or Sunday Mass. The 7.30pm evening Mass on Mondays may be particularly suitable in this regard. Thanks to those stewarding at the weekend Masses in both our Churches.

The restrictions do not allow for the handing around of the Offertory Collection baskets. But suitable boxes are available at each Church door for this purpose and thanks to all who contribute through them, whether attending inside or outside the Church or in any of the other ways you contribute.
