DIOCESAN PLANNING MEETING:
14TH TO 18TH NOVEMBER

Bishop Fintan Gavin has convened a meeting of all the Priests of the Diocese of Cork & Ross The meeting will take place from this Sunday evening, 14th November to Thursday evening 18th November. The purpose of the meeting is to begin the process of planning for the future of the diocese, a process that will extend outwards to include everyone in the diocese over the coming year. The meeting had to be postponed in 2020 due to Covid 19 restrictions. While the timing is not ideal, coming so soon after the Priests Annual Retreat, the diocese needs to commence looking at how we can meet the needs of all our communities into the future.
As the meeting will take place in Killarney, there will be no weekday Masses, except Funeral Masses, celebrated during the four days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of next week.

You are asked to pray that the Holy Spirit may guide our diocese as the first tentative steps are taken in plotting a course for the future.

PRAYING THE PSALMS, PSALM 84
How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord God of Hosts
Our world full of loveliness often hidden,
tiny, fragile, abused, needing to be supported, protected, acknowledged, appreciated, loved into being.
Our world full of beauty,
stopping we find it, finding we appreciate it, appreciating we embrace it, embracing we love it into being.

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING, 21ST NOVEMBER
On the last Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, which this year falls on the 21st November, next Sunday.
This Feast is a relative newcomer to the Church calendar. It was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 and was designed to give special recognition to the dominion Christ Our Lord has over all aspects of our lives. Originally it was celebrated on the last Sunday of October but it was changed by Pope Paul VI in 1969 to the last Sunday of Ordinary Time, which is the Sunday before Advent.
There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in Ovens Church from 1pm to 6pm. Rosary will be recited every hour on the hour.
Exposition concludes with Evening Prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 5.45pm.

Sheets have been placed in the main porches of both Churches, where you may fill in your name to spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament during the day.

REMEMBRANCE OF THE DEAD
On Wednesday last we completed our November Novena for our dead, through the morning & evening Masses in Ovens and Farran Churches. Within the Novena there were two very significant events.
Firstly, the Annual Mass of Remembrance for those who died in the past twelve months. This is always a very special and poignant occasion, when those who have been bereaved in our Parish come together in Ovens Church to remember & to pray for those they have lost during the year. This year was especially so because all families had Covid restriction funerals & also restrictions before the death.
Secondly, we visited on Sunday last the four cemeteries in our Parish, Athnowen, Aglish, Ovens & Kilcrea. This was to remember & pray for all who lie there. Again these were very well attended.
Thanks to all who took part in both the Mass of Remembrance & the Prayers & the blessing of graves in our cemeteries.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL (087 0695560)
As Covid 19 continues to affect us and winter is with us, the local Conference of St. Vincent de Paul is working harder than ever with families in need.
This year in particular some may be suffering the effects of rapid increases in the price of fuel and food. Should you be struggling to make ends meet, you can contact us on our confidential Tel. No. 087 0695560.
We will support you in the utmost confidence.
