MASS TIMES
Ovens: 9.30am.

Ash Wednesday is a time for us to focus on repentance and prayer and to get ready for the 40 days of Lent.
The ashes used on Ash Wednesday come from the burned palms left over from Palm Sunday.
Ashes will be blessed in Ovens Church during the 9.30am Mass on Ash Wednesday. You may then come to the altar and have the ashes placed on your forehead with the words “Remember thou art but dust and unto dust thou shalt return”.
Ashes will also be available after both Masses to take home for family members.
LENT 2022
This coming Wednesday, 2nd March is Ash Wednesday, the first day of lent. It is for us a time of renewal. Significantly it comes at a time when many of the Covid 19 restrictions are lifted.
There are signs of new hope and opportunities for new beginnings. A time to reflect on our lives and on the way we live them. A time to look at our priorities and perhaps a time to begin again. Lent provides us very much with that opportunity. The opportunity to deepen our Faith and our living out of it, or the opportunity to start again.
Please God we will use Lent well.
Pope Francis has requested that Ash Wednesday be a day of Prayer & Fasting for peace in Ukraine.
Life is never without a need, never without a problem, never without a hurtful moment.
But never forget that we have a Loving God who is protecting, guiding and helping us to attain a meaningful life.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS FOR LENT
The Stations of the Cross will be held in both Ovens & Farran Churches, on alternate Saturday nights, during the Season of Lent, after the Vigil Masses.
Ovens: 5th March after 7.30pm Mass.
Farran: 12th March after 6pm Mass.
All Welcome.
THE PRAYER OF A PILGRIM FOR LENT
Take a pair of shoes that you wear a lot and place them in front of you as you pray this prayer. Let your shoes remind you of your constant movement, both on the outside and on the inside of yourself.
PRAYER
There is much going on in my life, desert stretches, a vast land of questions. Inside my heart your promises tumble and turn.
O God of the Lenten Journey, lift me up. Let your great love hold me and create a deep trust in me. Then set me down, God of the journey: take my hand in yours and guide me ever so gently across the new territory of my life.
WALKING MEDITATION
Take these words with you and go for a walk, preferably a walk where you can be alone with the scripture and can let the words of God settle in your pilgrim heart:
“Be sure that I am with you; I will keep you safe wherever you go”. (Gen. 28:15)
Listen to the words of God to Jeremiah also, as you walk along. “I know the plans I have in mind for you. Plans for peace not disaster. Reserving a future full of hope for you” ( Jer. 29:11).
GARMENT OF SUFFERING, HOPE & THANKSGIVING
Everyone is welcome to be part of the Garment of Suffering, Hope & Thanksgiving.
As in previous years you may bring your own piece of cloth, 6 inches square, as it makes the sewing together of the pieces easier before the garment is put on the cross.
We will have spare pieces of cloth in a basket in the porches of both Churches.
Take a moment to hold your cloth & name & identify your own pain or suffering or that of someone close to you. The prayer, of course, may also be one of Hope or one of Thanksgiving for favours received.
Place your piece of cloth in the basket in front of the Altar.
All these pieces will be sewn together into a Garment of Suffering, Hope & Thanksgiving during Holy Week & placed on the cross on Good Friday.
The baskets will be in the main porches and before the altar from the 12th/13th March until Holy Week.

It has been suggested that some of our young talented people be invited to play a short reflective piece of music, as a reflection, before the closing prayers of the Ovens Vigil Mass on Saturday evenings.
If you are interested or if you know any young person who may like to take part, you may contact Fr . Liam or the Sacristy/Parish Centre.
