PRAYING THE PSALMS
Psalm No. 5:4
In the morning You hear me.
In the morning I offer You my prayer, watching and waiting.

A moment waiting and watching,
The sun filtering through as day breaks.
We give thanks, a new day, a new gift, a new miracle.

LÁ FHÉILE NAOMH PÁDRAIG 2022
Wednesday week, 17th March, we celebrate Lá Fhéile Naomh Pádraig, St. Patrick’s Day.
Patrick came to Ireland as an Immigrant. He chose to make this country his home. On St. Patrick’s Day we remember all those Irish people who have made their home in other countries and we give thanks for the many people who have come here to make their home in Ireland.
It is a special day which resonates with our people at home and all over the world. It will be especially so this year, as so many of our people abroad haven’t been home for over a year or more. Thankfully, this year family members may come home for the holiday, but some, for various reasons, may not be able to travel.
The Webcams give us an opportunity to send greetings/Beannachtaí to them on St. Patrick’s Day. If you would like to send greetings to family members abroad, please let us know and we will do so at the Lá Fhéile Naomh Pádraig Masses. Names may be handed in by mid-day on Wednesday, 16th March. You may drop the names into the letter boxes at Ovens or Farran Churches, the Parochial House or the Parish Centre. You may also email:ovensparish@gmail.com or phone: 4289768. In the meantime if you are in touch with family members abroad you can let them know.
As in previous years we will have a World Map near the altar in both Churches, from next weekend, 12th/13th March. You are invited to place a sticker on the map marking the country where your family member now lives and you may also put their names in the book. The stickers and book will be with the map.

WAR IN THE UKRAINE
As the reality of war in the Ukraine deepens and innocent lives are threatened and lost, Bishop Fintan invites the people of the Diocese and all people of good will to join with him in praying for the people in Ukraine.
We stand in solidarity with all Ukrainian people living in the Diocese of Cork & Ross as well as with people from here who have made Ukraine their home.
Please pray for an end to war and a restoration of peace.

GARMENT OF SUFFERING, HOPE & THANKSGIVING
As in previous years you may bring your own piece of cloth, 6 inches square, as it makes the sewing together of the pieces easier before the garment is put on the cross.
We will have spare pieces of cloth in a basket in the porches of both Churches.
Take a moment to hold your cloth & name & identify your own pain or suffering or that of someone close to you. The prayer, of course, may also be one of Hope or one of Thanksgiving for favours received.
Place your piece of cloth in the basket in front of the Altar.
All these pieces will be sewn together into a Garment of Suffering, Hope & Thanksgiving during Holy Week & placed on the cross on Good Friday.

The baskets will be in the main porches and before the altar from next weekend, 12th/13th March until Holy Week.

MATT TALBOT NOVENA
The Novena in honour of Matt Talbot will be held in The Way of the Cross Church, Togher at 7.30pm on the Mondays of Lent. If you would like to join on line you may do so on www.churchservices.tv/togher.
It is organised by the Cork Regional Pioneer Council.
They would also like to hear from any parish who has old Pioneer documents, such as registers or minute books, where there might have been a Pioneer Centre in the past.
You may contact Sorcha: 086 3642619 or email: sorchaol@gmail.com

INSTRUMENTAL REFLECTION
In last weekend’s newsletter we invited some of our young talented musicians to play a short reflective piece of music, as a reflection, before the closing prayers of the 7.30pm Ovens Vigil Mass on Saturday evenings. Young people in Farran are also invited to play at the 6pm Vigil Mass in Farran Church.
So far only one young musician has come forward and Méadhbh will play her reflective piece of music this Saturday evening. We would love to hear from other musicians who may like to take part.
You may contact Fr. Liam or the Sacristy/Parish Office.
