BEANNACHTAÍ LÁ FHÉILE PÁDRAIG NAOFA DO GACH ÉINNE SA BHAILE AGUS THAR FARRAIGE.

St. Patrick’s Day is a special day which resonates with our people at home and all over the world. Thankfully, this year family members may come home for the holiday, but some, for various reasons, may not be able to travel.
The Webcams give us an opportunity to send greetings/Beannachtaí to them on St. Patrick’s Day. If you would like to send greetings to family members abroad, please let us know and we will do so at the Lá Fhéile Naomh Pádraig Masses. Names may be handed in by mid-day on Wednesday, 16th March. You may drop the names into the letter boxes at Ovens or Farran Churches, the Parochial House or the Parish Centre. You may also email: ovensparish@gmail.com or phone: 4289768. In the meantime if you are in touch with family members abroad you can let them know.

As in previous years we will have a World Map near the altar in both Churches, from this weekend, 12th/13th March. You are invited to place a sticker on the map marking the country where your family member now lives and you may also put their names in the book. The stickers and book will be with the map.

We will also have a procession before both the Vigil Masses and the Feast Day Masses in both churches.
A picture of St. Patrick, a bowl of shamrock and the book with the names of family members living abroad will be brought to the altar while the choir sings the Entrance Hymn.
The Bread & Wine will be brought up at the Offertory of the Mass.

DAY OF REMEMBRANCE & RECOGNITION
“A once-off public holiday, a Day of Remembrance and Recognition, will be held in memory of the more than 9,000 people who have died on the island of Ireland with COVID. This will be held on Friday, 18th march. It will also recognise and say thank you to the volunteers, the Irish people and to all the workers who gave their all in the fight against COVID”.

POPE: “SILENCE ALL WEAPONS. THOSE WHO WAGE WAR FORGET HUMANITY!”
PRAYERS FOR UKRAINE
Pope Francis said that “those who wage war forget humanity: they do not start from the people, they do not look at the concrete life of the people, but put partisan interests and power in front of everything”. “They rely on the diabolic and perverse logic of weapons which is the most distant from the will of God, and they distance themselves from the common people who want peace”, he said.
He noted that, in every conflict, “ordinary people are the real victims who pay for the follies of war with their own skin”.
The pope added that he thinks especially “of the elderly, of those who are seeking refuge at this time, of mothers fleeing with their children”.
Pope Francis also invited all men and women of goodwill not to forget the wars in other parts of the world, mentioning those in Yemen, Syria and Ethiopia.

Do you want to fast this Lent?
In the words of Pope Francis

Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and have trust in god.
Fast from complaints: contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness: fill your hearts with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words: be silent and listen.
