We pray for the world that in this moment of crisis, we may reach out in solidarity to our brothers and sisters in need.
May we walk in your ways so that peace and justice become a reality for the people of Ukraine and for all the world.
Amen.

THE MONTH OF MAY
This Sunday is the first day of May, Our Lady’s Month.
May is the beginning of Summer and it’s name comes from the Latin Maius, probably referring to the Goddess Maia.
According to tradition the birthstone for May is the emerald and it’s birth flowers are the Lily of the Valley and the common hawthorn, also known as the mayflower.
ROSARY AT THE GROTTOS.
The Rosary will be recited at the Grottos in Farran and Ovens during the month of May. Commencing on this Wednesday, 4th of May in Farran at 7.30pm and at the Grotto in Ovens on Friday, 6th May also at 7.30pm.
All welcome.

Next Sunday, 8th May is Vocations Sunday, when we pray for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life.

PRAYING THE PSALMS IN MAY, OUR LADY’S MONTH
Yes, from this day forward, all generations will call me blessed.
For the Almighty has done great things for me, Holy is His name.
Canticle of Mary. Luke 1: 48 to 49.
A call to wholeness,
Learning to trust ourselves, follow our deepest desires, explore the recesses of our heart, becoming whole.
His mercy extends to those who love Him, from generation to generation.

ÁR DTEANGA FÉIN
Idir Dhá Thine Lae Bealtaine
In a dilemma. A reference to the practice of driving cattle between (idir) two fires on the first day of May (lá Bealtaine). When a difficult decision has to be made. Similar to idir dhá chomhairle (Between two advices).

SYNODAL PATHWAY, MAY 2022
Pope Francis took a prophetic step last year when he postponed a meeting of Bishops in Rome. It wasn’t because of the pandemic! It was because he wants the voices of more than Bishops and Cardinals to be heard.
So, this year’s meeting was put back to 2023 and he has asked each diocese to put in place a way for people to have a say in how the Catholic church will fulfil its mission for the Lord in these times. The major change is to be a Church that “walks together and listens to one another”. This is what’s meant by being “synodal”.
During this month of May, our diocese will be opening up ways for people to have a say and to listen and have an input into next year’s meeting in Rome. Watch this space!

Prayer for the Synod
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and Son, forever and ever.
Amen.

COLLECTION FOR UKRAINE
The special collection for Ukraine in the Cork & Ross Diocese has now reached €237,729. Sincere thanks to all who contributed so generously. Nationally, this collection has raised to date over €3.25 million. The proceeds of this Special Collection are directed to Caritas Internationalis, which is the helping hand of the Church on the ground in the Ukraine.
We continue to pray for peace in the Ukraine.
