VOCATIONS SUNDAY
This is Good Shepherd Sunday, a day of special prayer for vocations to the work of service in the Church. There is the enduring command of Christ to his Church to go out and preach to all people. There is need for people of faith to respond to that command, people who are prepared to dedicate their lives to this work for the sake of the Gospel.
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS TO PRIESTHOOD IN THE DIOCESE OF CORK AND ROSS
Loving God, at baptism you have gifted each of us with a call to serve you and all people in everything we do.
Give us the strength to share your message of love, justice, hope and peace in every part of our Diocese of Cork and Ross.
We ask you, Lord, for the gift of new vocations to priesthood in our diocese.
In your fatherly care, accompany those who are seeking to know your will for them.
Inspire those you invite to serve as priests and fill them with the courage to answer that call.
Through Christ Our Lord,
Amen.
Copies of the above prayer will be available in the porches of both Ovens & Farran Churches from this weekend.
Please take a copy.
SECOND COLLECTION
The Annual Collection for Mission and Ministry will be held this weekend, 7th/8th May.
This collection helps to fund the supports provided in the diocese to help parishes plan for the future, support lay leadership and ministries and develop new ways of being a vibrant faith community. A new chapter in Diocesan life, with greater collaboration between priests and people requires training and resourcing such as the current Synodal Process in the Diocese and so much more in the coming months.
The baskets for this collection will be on the tables at the doors of the church, near the Offertory Collection boxes.
Please support.
PRAYING THE PSALMS
You are kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love.
How good You are, Lord to all, compassionate to all your creatures.
Psalm 145: 8-9
Looking deeply within, knowing we are loved unconditionally, releasing us from fear, healing us from our wounds,
Freeing us to be ourselves, bringing peace at night.
SYNOD: SO THAT ALL MAY BE HEARD
It’s not every day that the Holy Father asks every Catholic in the world to have a say in the life of the Catholic Church!
During this month of May, the Diocese of Cork and Ross is opening up ways for people to have a say and to listen and have an input into next year’s Synod meeting in Rome, which is called by Pope Francis.
The easiest way to find out more and to have your say is to go to synod.corkandross.org where an online confidential questionnaire is available to be filled in. (It’ll take about 15minutes). It’s open until May 24th.
All the responses will be collated and added to the feedback from meetings being held across the diocese with randomly selected groups during May.
A summary document will be forwarded from our diocese at the end of May.
So, it’s time to have your say at synod.corkandross.org
EASTER/MAY REFLECTION
May is marked with “Alleluias” as we celebrate the Resurrection and live into the Easter joy we proclaim. May is also marked by the church in it’s dedication of the month to Mary.
From the Annunciation to Pentecost, Mary appears as someone whose freedom is completely open to God’s will and shows us how to live in God’s word.
In this month of May, may we turn to Mary in our times of joy and sorrow and ask her to continue to show us the way to her Son. As we strive to grow in faith and live more fully in God’s word, may we, like Mary, bring Christ to others.
