Second Collection
The Annual Collection for the Priesthood Education Fund in the Diocese will be taken up next weekend 24th/25th September. This year two new students will begin studies for the Diocese of Cork and Ross at Valladolid in Spain and another candidate will begin studies for the Permanent Diaconate. The Priesthood Education Fund will finance their studies as well as costs for ongoing training and education of Priests.
In the region of €110,000 will be needed to meet these costs in the coming year. Last year €34,364 was raised in this collection so you are invited to be generous to the Priesthood Education Fund Collection this year.
ORDINATION
Please pray for Rev. Ronan Sheehan, Newcestown Parish, who will be ordained to the Priesthood for the Dioceses of Cork & Ross by Bishop Fintan Gavin.
The ordination will take place in St. John the Baptist Church, Newcestown on this Sunday, 18th September at 3pm.
Please remember him in your prayers both now and in the future.
The ceremony can be viewed via live stream through the Diocesan office Website: corkandross.org
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS TO PRIESTHOOD IN THE DIOCESE OF CORK AND ROSS.
Loving God, at baptism you have gifted each of us with a call to serve you and all people in everything we do.
Give us the strength to share your message of love, justice, hope and peace in every part of our Diocese of Cork and Ross.
We ask you, Lord, for the gift of new vocations to priesthood in our diocese.
In your fatherly care, accompany those who are seeking to know your will for them.
Inspire those you invite to serve as priests and fill them with the courage to answer that call.
Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND
When you think your prayers are not being answered and you see only one set of footprints on the sand, be assured they are not yours. God is carrying you and your load.
For further reflection on the above from the Scriptures, please read Isaiah 53:4
Bishop Fintan recently issued a Pastoral Letter entitled: “Putting out into the Deep” in which he formulated his pastoral plan for the Dioceses. Copies are still available at each door in our Churches.
The Parishes of the Dioceses have been formed into “Families of Parishes”. This is distinct to single parishes up to now. This came into effect last weekend, 10th/11th September. Our parish of Ovens/Farran is in a Family of Parishes with Ballincollig and Ballinora. This will give rise to some changes in the near future. The most immediate will be a reduction of the number of Masses and also some Mass time changes. Priests will also move around between Churches on a Rota basis. There will also be some other changes in the near future.
GOUGANE SUNDAY
The Annual Pilgrimage in honour of St. Finbarr will take place on Sunday next, 25th September (the Feast Day of St. Finbarr). The Rosary will be recited at 2.30pm & Mass will be celebrated by Most Rev. Fintan Gavin, Bishop of Cork and Ross at 3pm. This year marks the 120th anniversary of the dedication of St. Finbarr’s Oratory, Gougane Barra.
The Oratory built in 1900, opened in 1901 & dedicated on the 15th August 1902. Among those present on that day was Pádraig Pearse, who was on a cycling tour of Ireland at the time.
