MISSION SUNDAY
This Sunday, 23rd October, is Mission Sunday. It marks the Annual Catholic Celebration of Mission Sunday.
Our prayer and contributions help to support missionaries and those to whom they reach out in countries where the Church is new, young and oftentimes poor. Our support allows Catholic Communities throughout the world to become self sufficient and to progress according to their own needs and traditions.
Mission Sunday also reminds us that Jesus sent His Apostles “to teach all nations”. That request refers directly to us too. Because we are all Missionary too in our own country, in our own parishes, in our communities and in our places of work.
The theme of Mission Sunday this year is “You will be my Witnesses”. That is the challenge before each of us today, to be witnesses to Jesus Christ.
SECOND COLLECTION
The special collection, which will be taken up at all Masses this weekend, is the Holy Father’s annual appeal for spiritual & financial support so that the life-giving work of overseas Mission and Missionaries can continue.
It links too with the Harvest Thanksgiving, care & appreciation for the Earth and for God’s People.

HARVEST THANKSGIVING
This weekend too we give thanks for the fruits of the Earth. We give thanks for God’s goodness to us through our Harvest Thanksgiving. It links up very much with a theme very close to the mind and heart of Pope Francis, “Care of the Earth”.
We give thanks for the fruits of the earth when we care for it properly. This weekend the school children of 4th Classes in Ovens School and 3rd/4th in Farran school, with their teachers, have made some beautiful presentations in both our Churches. Our sincere thanks to them for their work.
In many ways too it links with Mission Sunday, care and appreciation for the earth and care for God’s people.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK

For each new day, pray for enough strength for that day, enough love for that day, enough hope for that day, enough peace for that day.
Further Reflection Psalm 29:11.
