CONFIRMATION 2023
This week in Confirmation Preparation we reflect on the Gift of Right Judgement.
This Gift of the Holy Spirit allows us to judge rightly what we should do in a particular circumstance. It builds on both wisdom and understanding & enlightens a person as to what to do. It is the gift that allows us as Christians to be assured that we will act correctly in times of trouble & trial.
With the Gift of right judgement we learn to overcome our self-centeredness & to ask ourselves constantly: “What is it that the Lord desires? What is His will? What is it that pleases Him?”
Offering thanks for the gift of right judgement, Pope Francis prayed that all might “seek to support one another along the path of faith, as we seek to be ever more attentive to the working of the Holy Spirit in our hearts”.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL ANNUAL CHURCH GATE COLLECTION REMINDER
We would like to remind you that this Year’s Annual Church Gate Collection will take place at all Masses in the mid Cork area next weekend: Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th December.
St. Vincent de Paul in the Ovens/Kilmurry area are very much aware that this year, more than any, we are all affected by the rising cost of living. Our Volunteers, however, are meeting more and more families, even those on low paid employment who cannot put food on the table & heat their homes most weeks. We are again depending on your support, no matter how small, to make Christmas a little more comfortable for those who come to us for help.
Calls for help are running at unprecedented levels now. We look forward to your usual generosity.
FARRAN FOLK GROUP
Farran Folk Group will sing at the 7pm Mass on Saturday next, 10th December. Practice beforehand from 6.30pm.
The Folk Group would love to have some new singers. Please come along or encourage someone you think might be interested.
OFFERTORY COLLECTION BOXES
Offertory Collection Boxes for 2023 are now available in the porches of both Churches for those who wish to use them. Donations are, of course, welcome & appreciated in any form.
The advantage of using the envelopes is if you attend Mass outside the parish, the envelope is returned to this parish. The envelope is also necessary to take part in the Tax Back System. Easy payments, Direct Debits may also be arranged.
Please contact Fr. Liam for details.
Tax Back System: Participants are asked to please collect their named 2023 boxes in the Sacristies or Parish Office. Members who wish to verify if their subscriptions to date are in line to reach the minimum €250 by the end of December can contact Fr. Liam.
Refund from Revenue this year to the end of Nov. is almost €7,000. Thanks to the Parish Finance Committee for their work in this.
New members (tax payers) are most welcome to join the system.
Thanks to all who contribute in whatever way you do.
