ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
The local branch of SVP, St. Mary’s, would like to thank the Éire Óg Tony Dineen Puc Fada Committee for giving us the proceeds of this year’s event, which amounted to €1,530. As unprecedented energy and general costs of living continue, this is a significant contribution to our funds and more welcome this year than ever.

We thank you again sincerely.
We trust Éire Óg will go from strength to strength and we wish you every success in 2023.

SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD
This Sunday, the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, we celebrate the Sunday of the Word of God in both our Churches, 9.30am in Farran & 11.30am in Ovens.
Enthronement Ceremony:
The bible will be carried in procession from the back of the Church and placed in a special place in the sanctuary.
Recommissioning of the Ministers of the Word:
We invite all Ministers of the Word to a Recommissioning Ceremony during the Mass on Sunday in both Churches.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity began on January 18th and ends on January 25th, the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul.
The theme is “Belonging: Praying for Unity amidst Injustice”.

As we join with other Christians around the world for the Week of Prayer we pray that our hearts will be open to see and hear the many ways in which racism continues to destroy lives & to discern the steps we can take as individuals and communities to heal the hurts and build a better future for everyone.

A Prayer for Christian Unity
Dear Lord, we long for real unity in the midst of injustice.
We thank you for those in your church who advocate for racial justice.
We pray you will strengthen their resolve.
May their work change attitudes.
May institutions be completely transformed, so the last will be the first, the least will receive the most, the lost may find a place to belong.
May we stand against racial injustice.
Stand with those who are marginalised.
Stand as one church for all you stood for.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

Scripture Reflection for the Week
Don’t be Miserable

Miserable people get the same number of opportunities as happy people. They just tend to overlook them.
Look for the good and you’ll feel much more hopeful.

For Further Reflection
Isaiah 45:22

ÁR DTEANGA FÉIN
Bíonn dhá insint ar Scéal
There are two sides to every story. An extension of this seanfhocal continues agus dhá leagan déag ar amhrán (and twelve versions of a song).
Not surprising when we consider that storytelling and singing were our ancestors’ principal entertainments cois tine (by the fire).
