SECOND COLLECTION
The Diocesan Needs Quarterly Collection will be taken up at all Masses this weekend, 13th/14th January.
This Quarterly collection allows the Diocese to provide ongoing supports to parishes in many areas. It contributes to the day-to-day running costs of the Diocese, including the cost of personnel, utilities, professional fees, safeguarding etc.
People continue to be very generous to these collections and your support is greatly appreciated. The October collection amounted to €45,607.
On Sunday next, 21st January we celebrate the Sunday of the Word of God in both our Churches, 9.30am in Farran & 11.30am in Ovens.
In September 2019, Pope Francis launched the Sunday of the Word of God, inviting local communities to find ways to “mark this Sunday with special solemnity” and suggested that the Bible be enthroned “ in order to focus the attention of the Assembly on the value of God’s Word”.
The Enthronement Ceremony
At the beginning of Mass the Bible is carried in procession from the entrance of the Church to a specially prepared place of honour in the sanctuary, where the Bible is left open in this place of honour during the Mass. The Priest then says the Enthronement Prayer.
The official logo for the Sunday of the Word of God was unveiled at the Vatican on 17th January, 2020 & depicts the “Road to Emmaus” when on Easter Sunday two disciples of Jesus were going from Jerusalem to Emmaus.
RECOMMISSIONING OF THE MINISTERS OF THE WORD
All Ministers of the Word, Farran & Ovens, are invited to the Recommissioning Ceremony during Mass on Sunday next, Sunday of the Word of God.
The Word of God was central to Christ’s preaching and is central in the Church’s preaching and in our teaching of the faith Christ has brought us.
As Ministers of the Word of God in Church, we are in a position to open/unfold the Word of God to those present, to introduce others to Christ.
A PRAYER FOR MINISTERS OF THE WORD
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Holy Word.
May it always be a lamp to our feet and a light to our steps, a source of wisdom, hope and strength as we go through life. Thank you for calling me to proclaim your Holy Word to your people.
Bless me and help me to prepare carefully & faithfully, that I may communicate Your Word clearly, enthusiastically & reverently.
May your Holy Spirit inspire my understanding & reading & transform any nervousness or apprehension into courage & conviction so as to read well. Help all who hear your Holy Word to listen attentively so it may penetrate hearts & minds & transform lives, through Jesus Christ, Your Word made flesh. Amen.
