Farran Church was opened in 1860, and dedicated to The Immaculate Conception. It was probably one of the first churches built in the country after the first Lourdes Apparition in 1854.
The previous temporary church was in a different location, up the road towards the Old Aglish Church and cemetery. This was demolished when the new church was opened.

Farran Grotto
Work on the Grotto and Churchyard was completed for the Confirmation Day, April 20th.
The stonework was done by Joe O’Connor, Aglish. Special features are the water, lighting, the garden and the seating. All other work was done by Jack O’Regan, Currahaly: tarmac, lining and providing materials for the Grotto. Gardening was done by Jerry O’Hea, Farran.
The Official Opening was on Saturday evening, May 1st. Rosary was recited at the Grotto each evening during May. Schoolchildren took part each week. Many families come to pray at the Grotto regularly.
It was an expensive project, costing almost €50,000. Savings in Parish fund were used to cover the cost. No collections were held.
